Family Playgrounds & Natural Fun: Exploring Our Stream, Forest, and Play Areas
Looking for screen-free ways to keep kids happy all day? At our wooded Eifel campsite, Family Playgrounds & Natural Fun isn’t a promise—it’s the everyday vibe. The grounds are effectively one big playground, with a little stream to clamber around, a forested hill to explore, a natural playground behind the tent field, and two formal playgrounds with different play elements. Add a small football field, a common fire/BBQ place, and cozy hangouts, and you’ve got everything you need for carefree outdoor days.
This guide highlights how families can make the most of our stream, forest, and play areas, what to expect in every season, and practical tips for effortless fun.
Our Little Stream: Big on Imagination
Our small creek is where hours of hands-on play happen. Children can splash, balance on stones, and build mini-dams while discovering the textures and sounds of nature. It’s active, creative, and wonderfully simple.
- Kids can play and clamber around the water’s edge.
- The stream is too small for swimming; it’s for exploring, not bathing.
- Many of our car-free tent sites sit along the creek on Field "Aan de Beek," each with its own power connection—perfect for families who want waterside play right near their tent.
Quick ideas kids love by the stream
- Leaf “boat” races along gentle ripples
- Stone stepping challenges for balance and coordination
- Simple dam-building with pebbles and sticks
- Nature spotting: shapes in stones, water flows, and reflections
Tip: For comfort, pack water shoes and a spare set of socks. Establish simple family rules about staying within sight around water.
The Forest and Hill: Nature’s Adventure Course
Just beyond your pitch, a forest and hill open up a world of unstructured play: trail-following, stick forts, and wildlife spotting. You can walk straight from the campsite into a vast forest area—no car required, just curiosity.
Nature pitch on the hill
On a hill directly adjacent to the campsite, seven terraces form our Nature pitch area—ideal for peace-seekers who love real camping.
- No cars, no caravans, no Wi-Fi on the hill; with a bit of luck, you may catch some 4G (not guaranteed).
- Electricity is limited—suitable for charging a device or a small camping fridge. Tip: bring an extra-long cable.
- With some luck, you might spot wildlife from your tent. It doesn’t get much closer to wild camping.
Pitch sizes are categorized to help fit your tent setup: S (up to 60 m²), M (60–80 m²), L (80–100 m²), and XL (more than 100 m²). Specific terraces range from M to XL.
Two Playgrounds, Plus a Natural Playground
Families will find not one but two playgrounds with different play elements, so there’s always a new challenge to try. Behind the tent field, a natural playground encourages freeform, sensory-rich exploration—think climbing, balancing, and imaginative games that borrow from nature’s shapes and textures.
- Play squares (for example, Twister) and a wide selection of outdoor toys make it easy for kids to join in.
- When the weather turns, indoor games offer cozy entertainment without missing a beat.
Sports, Fire Pits, and Cozy Corners to Gather
Play isn’t just slides and swings. Our grounds make space for friendly matches and slow evenings too.
- A small football field invites quick kickabouts and family challenges.
- The common fire/BBQ place is a favorite for toasting, storytelling, and unwinding after active days.
- Two lovely terraces at our Gaststatte make it easy to relax with a drink while kids keep playing within sight.
When Weather Shifts: Warm Shelter and Simple Fun
Even when the weather is less than perfect, there’s plenty to do:
- Camping Bistro: a cozy meeting place, with à la carte dishes prepared by our chef. Grab a game from the games cabinet or enjoy a casual game of pool.
- Bar/Terrace: open every day except Monday from 8:30–11:00 a.m. and 3:00–8:00 p.m. In beautiful weather and in high season, we’re open longer—check the door for the latest hours.
- On chilly or drizzly days, settle in by the warm fireplace and keep the good vibes going.
- In the preseason, the kitchen is closed on Monday and Tuesday; the terrace is cozy open on Tuesdays.
Low-Threshold Entertainment in High Season
In high season, we organize fun, low-threshold entertainment that’s simple, cozy, and focused on meeting each other in nature. It complements—rather than replaces—the spontaneous play that unfolds around the stream, forest, and fields.
Where to Stay for Easy Access to Play
Different pitch types put your family close to the kind of fun you love most.
- Tent site car-free: These pitches are almost all along our small creek (Field "Aan de Beek") and include a power connection—great for families who want waterside play.
- Nature pitch: On the adjacent hill with seven terraces, perfect for stargazing and wildlife spotting; no cars or caravans, and no Wi-Fi—just space and quiet.
- Comfort+ camping pitch: Located across different fields, with options like extra-large spots or placements near the stream.
- RV site: Centrally located, near the terrace and sanitary building, with 16A power, a water tap, and a drainage point for grey water (no separate camper service).
If you’re unsure which pitch suits your setup best, we’re happy to help you choose.

Practical Tips for Effortless Outdoor Play
- Pack water shoes, quick-dry clothing, and a spare set of socks for stream play.
- Create a simple checklist for kids (hat, water bottle, sun protection) before heading to the forest or hill.
- Bring a small nature kit: a lightweight bucket, magnifying glass, and notebook for sketches or leaf rubbings.
- Set clear family rules near water and when exploring the woods (stay within sight, follow marked paths, respect wildlife).
- For the Nature pitch, bring an extra-long cable to make the most of limited electricity.
- We keep our grass in the best possible condition for everyone. Plastic tarp or root canvas in the awning or under the canopy is not permitted. A special breathable camping ground sheet/tent carpet may be used.
- Check the current opening hours posted on the Bar/Terrace door, especially in high season when we often stay open longer.
- Looking to mix in cycling or hiking? Scenic bike trails and hours of hiking start right from the campsite. Ask us for maps and ideas.
Why Unstructured Nature Play Works
Unstructured outdoor play lets children lead the way—climbing, balancing, inventing games, testing ideas, and collaborating with new friends. Our setting encourages this naturally, from the gentle challenges of stepping stones and forest paths to the collaborative spirit around the football field or BBQ area. The result is a family rhythm that’s active, social, and delightfully low-tech.
